Make Your Home Fall-Ready in 6 Steps
It’s hard to believe, but fall will be coming faster than we even realize here in Minnesota. Back to school ads are out and the first football games will be on soon. As the seasons begin to shift, it’s important to think about preparing your home, both the exterior and the interior, for what’s to come.
Today, we’re sharing three ways to care for your home’s exterior and three ways to prepare the interior of your home for autumn. As residential remodelers, we see a lot of homes and know what it takes to maintain a home so that you have years to enjoy it.
3 Ways to Prepare Your Home’s Exterior
Our first tip is to clean out your gutters or hire a professional to come to your home to clean them out. When the leaves fall, you want to make sure the rain can still get through your gutters and not cause any blockage. You may even need to replace your gutters or portions of them, so taking the time to inspect them to reduce future headaches is a great idea.
Next, think about your heating system. If you’re not already consistently replacing your filters, now is a great time to get on a schedule to make sure your heat is working efficiently. Also, check your ducts throughout your home or hire a professional to inspect and clean them. You will thank yourself later!
Finally, when thinking about the exterior of your home in the fall, have some fun with the change of seasons! Maybe you want to decorate your front porch with fall pumpkins, signage, or foliage. This can be a really inexpensive way to update the exterior of your home to welcome you home each day and your guests when they stop in. Let the photo below be your inspiration!
Three Ways to Bring Fall Into Your Home
Along with ushering in the new season to the exterior of your home, there are many ways to embrace the changing seasons in your home as well. Below are three ideas we have after years of remodeling homes and seeing how much impact the right decor can make!
To begin, think about bringing the outside in. Take a moment to observe the colors outside in the fall. Oranges, reds, yellows, and maroons are naturally more prevalent during this season, so this can be a helpful color palette for the inside of your home as well. Find candles that smell like fall, bring in bouquets that remind you of the changing leaves, and create moments in your space that feel a bit more cozy.
This may also be a great time to declutter your home. Were there items you didn’t use all summer that you probably won’t use next summer? Are there fall decor items that you’re not excited to pull out of storage? Put together a pile, and make a plan to donate the things you don’t need anymore. Who knows? Someone else might be thrilled to use what you’re not
Finally, think of your favorite elements of the season to come. Maybe it’s baking with fruit or vegetables harvested from your garden, or hosting family and friends over to watch Sunday football. Whatever makes this season feel special to you, make plans to enjoy it and savor it.
